All,

We are working on finally determining the appropriate expiry time frame. We currently archive all emails after 1 year and leave no stubs\shortcuts.   Are there any audit capabilities or usage reports to determine how often users are actually referring to the archived mail within the explorer.

I've recently realised that everytime a collection runs for a particular vault store partition, in the end it always states that "Some files were not collected because they have not been backed up."

This has been happening for quite some time now. That particular partition, is configured to collect files more than 10 days old and is also closed.

- I did a quick search on that vault store partition folder and there's about 20K worth of ".dvs" files, many from 2011 for example.

- I double checked the backup configuration and all folders and subfolders are being backed up, it's using a trigger file and there's no "files waiting backup" on the usage report. Running incremental backups daily, weekly differential, monthly full.

I've run a DTRACE (attached) while the Collection task was running, couldn't find anything relevant, but I might not be looking for the right things. The only "errors" I see on the DTRACE are:

"[6548]    (StorageFileWatch)    <27164>    EV:M    The Collector for Partition 194B9D291352F2A42A0AC3314DB9A7D9F1q10000evserver01 did not create a Collection as either the Collection was too small or it did not contain enough files. Collection size = 94528 bytes, number of files = 14"

So..there's 1449 of those events, I've summed the number of files for each event and that adds up to 8187 files.

Assuming those 8187 files cannot be "collected" for the reason stated above, there's still around 12K remaining that should(?) be collected.

Please note that the Collection task seems to be running "fine" generally, collects and creates many .cab's daily, but for some reason isn't collecting some files.

Our company has been rolling out Office 2013 across our environment.  In this process we ran into an issue with a terminal server that has the FSA agent installed.  When we attempted to install Office 2013, we got a generic 1603 error from the installer.  After several weeks of testing and tweaking, we discovered that the problem is that with the fsa agent installed, the installer complains about permissions issues.  But removing the agent, we can isntall without issue.  Is this a known problem?  Is there a solution?  We have tried stopping individual services and all the services, but to no avail.

Current enviroment.

2 EV Server and 2 SQL server. and 3 file servers.

EVserver1 & Evserver2 & SQLSRV1 & SQLSRV2.

Directory Databases resides on SQLSRV1 for both EV servers. need to move Directory database from SQLSRV1 to SQLSRV2.

Also will create new EVSITE. 

Is that possible.

Our "opened" File Vault Store resides on a NTFS volume circa 2TB, currently it has circa 70gb free

Using the article TECH48970 I am able to create a new Vault Store Partition, however can someone explain how the currently archived files can be accessed if the Vault store is changed from opened to "closed" or "ready"

We have a SharePoint 2007 farm, that has archived content, which will be upgarded to SharePoint 2010/2013.

Can the archived content be migrated or doe sit need to be unarchived first?

I have an issue where my colleague created a new Stroage group and instead of pointing this to the jounral mailbox for that server he has pointed it to the mailbox we use as the system mailbox (we tend to think of it as the Archive box)

unforunately no one noticed untill it had 130000 mails.

to resolve the issue i created the Archive mailbox as a second journal task mailbox and set it to run. unforunately it got down to 19000 and it stopped clearing down the Archive mailbox (i left it for two days before coming to this conclusion) unforunately i don't know why it won't clear the rest of the archive or how to resolve this issue

I have tried moving the some of the mails into the main journal mailbox but this doesn't journal down them either.

is there a age before EV won't journal the mails and if so is there a way i can reset them to get these 19000 journaled

I'm curious as to where enterprise vault gets it's server url for external access from.

It appears that the server name appears as <server name>.<doaim>.ad.local rather than <Server name>.<domain>.co.uk

This causes an issue for us when delploying the EV Outlook Web Application in Exchange 2013. This uses SSL and so the server name appears all wrong, in the cert we have the servername.<domain>.co.uk rather than <domain>.ad.local.

I support Enterprise Vault for a large organization.

One user has logged an incident stating that EV (10.0.4) is clearing the Outlook (2007) color categories on emails when they get archived.

Is this the normal functionality or is there any way to get EV to save the categories placed on an email.

Hello all,

We have a retention category for mail-archived items which is 'keep forever'. There is a discussion going on internally to use Expiry, but the time-frame is not known yet. Discussions are everything older than 3 years, or maybe 5 or 7.

I need to find number of items and size that are older than an x-amount of years.

As example:

Find items which are archived older than 7 years, then older than 6 years etc. Based on that, I can do the maths on how many and how much will be deleted.

I've been trying to use several examples given on the forum, but they do not seem to match what I want. Can anyone come up with a query that allows me to gather this information?

What I would like as output:

Archivename, items older than 7 years, size of items older than 7 years.

I'm requesting your advices concerning migration of Vault SQL DBs.

First, We've 2 EV env. (v10.0.2) with 1 dedicated SQL server for EACH Vault site.

Now, I would like to know if it's possible to consolidate all Vault SQL DBs (including Enterprise Vault Directory) on one SQL server.

Based on "SQL Best Practices Guide" (ref.: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=DOC5365), this configuration seems supported but not recommanded. Do you have some experience with this type of configuration?

My second question is concerning compatibility between Vault v10.0.2 and SQL 2012 x64.

Based on the compatibility charts, Vault DBs v10.0.2 can be hosted on SQL 2012 x64 but some of your forum do not recommend that.

May be someone can clarify this point or has handle this type of configuration.

I tried to give access for two users to IMAP, i did like manual said, the Metadata Store Build task is successfully created, but when i run "Index Administration Task" then, it starts proccesing and both users get error and status of the subtask is stuck to Will Retry.

Hi,

We have Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 running with exchange 2013, HCP storage connected.From last 1 month we are getting below critical alert on EV console.There is no issue in Backup but still same alert keep on coming.

There are 1251604 savesets that have not yet been backed up or replicated for Vault Store 'XXXStore1'
Event ID 41008.

Kindly suggest what should we check to fix this.I have checked several articles about this, they all pointing to Backup but checked with backup team , they said

Backup is getting completed successfully daily.

i´m in the process of migrate mass of mail archives to a new EV surrounding.

The old System is a single EV 9.0.2 single Server based on Windows 2003 with a dedicated SQL Database and an NTFS Vault Store.

The new System and new EV Site is a single Server with EV 10.0.4 CH3 based on Windows Server 2008 R2 with a dedicated SQL Datbase and a NTFS Vault Store.

The first few hundred archives i´ve already migrated. I had different errors which result from a data corruption in the past in some Collections. We know about it and live with this possible data loss. So we confgured different exceptions in the move Config:

In the last weeks one error comes up again and again for which i didn´t found the reason. In most cases the move proceeds after reporting this error, but it leads to big delay of the planned end of the migration. In the last days only 1-3 Migrations where finished. A value of 10-15 is normal.

The error is logged in the EV Application log with the EventID 41226. The message is:

I already tried to reduce the ammount of parallel moves and tasks but also with the smalest values the error appeares. I didn´t found any errors on the depending File and SQL Server also. McAffee is deactivated on the EV Server

The error already appeard in the past, but not very often.

Any ideas?

I have discovered an issue with the IMAP notification message where you have users in multiple domains.  The IMAP notification message uses the "default" instead of the real domain/username/12345 in the HTML generated message sent to the user.  So a user gets a notfication to use  us/jdoe/1235 to set up his IMAP configuration when he should use mx/jdoe/1235. 

Additionally, if you look at the user in the console or webapp connection, the domain/username is displayed correctly. 

I can't find in the html notification where it is pulling the domain/username  ("IMAP_username") so I can't fix it.

BTW, I use a single provisioning group for IMAP, this is the only place I see a default domain, I believe that I will have to use a PG for each domain until this is resolved.  Since the data is pulled correctly in the ASP it should be able to pull correctly in the HTML. 

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I have EV11.01 installed on Windows 2008 R2.

I have some Citrix servers with Outlook 2010, and the Outlook add-in installed.

I have configured the desktop policy to show "Delete from Vault" and on the toolbar.

The retention category is not set to prevent user deletion.

When i open Outlook, open the Enterprise Vault tab, there is not an option to delete in the toolbar.

When I go to search, there is still no option to delete.

I have tried creating a WebApp.ini file on the EV server with these settings:

BSDeleteButton=1
ISDeleteButton=1

I have restarted IIS, logged on as a user, and deleted the IE cache, but still I cannot get the option to delete from the vault.

I feel like i am missing something obvious.

Any pointers?

Having issues with installing EV 11.0.1 on Windows 2012:

Setup has found that the following required windows features are not enabled.

AS-TCP-Activation

AS-Named-Pipes

When I click on the Enable features button it errors out saying it can't find them.

I looked everywhere in the add features but can't find them.

Just found out that this is Windows STORAGE Server 2012, which does not have the Application Server role.  Wondering if that's the issue.

The Compatibilty Guide mentions that older verions of Windows Storage Server (2003, 2008) were not supported.  But it does not say anything about 2012.

Does anyone know if we can insatall EV 11.0.1 on Windows Storage Server 2012 at all?
