Vault Cache not synchronizing for any user

I need a solution

Hi Guys,

Since upgrading a user to EV 11, Vault Cache no longer synchronizes for any user.

Attached is a client log which looks the same for 2 users along with Vault Information.

I have noticed the following lines that can be causing issues, but can't work out where to solve these:

  • OVENABLED = 2
  • Unable to add/remove Outlook ForceFormReload registry key fix for Outlook: 0x80070005 and ~SetForceFormReloadKey: 0x80070005
  • Synchronization failed (COM error):: 0x80070005
  • HttpQueryInfo text is 'No access to archive' status code is '298' and HttpQueryInfo text is 'No access to archive' status code is '298'
  • Body is <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?><MDCSyncResponse hr='-2147024891' msg='No access to archive'><IncrSyncResponse></IncrSyncResponse></MDCSyncResponse>
  • HDR: LoadXMLResponse is <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?><MDCSyncResponse hr='-2147024891' msg='No access to archive'><IncrSyncResponse></IncrSyncResponse></MDCSyncResponse>
  • HDR:SYNC:ARC: MDCSyncResponse msg: No access to archive

Things I have tried:

  • Ensured that IE is default browser
  • Ensured that the proxy server and SSL Certificate are in place and configured properly (wildcard SSL Cert and Internal and External EV alias and FQDNs are listed to bypass the proxy on the firewalls)
  • Attempted to reset vault cache with a test user but did not resolve anything
  • Attempted to delete files and reg keys for test user for vault cache in order to be able to create it from new. However, although I can set up Vault Cache this way, when attempting to sync it says, "No vaults available"

Also, in the EVCache folder under VCBuild, there are 3 files from over a month ago, are these a problem?

Vaulting issues - mails as attachments

I need a solution

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked beforehand but does EV client have any issues opening vaulted items with a mail attached?

It seems like all of our users cannot access these types of vaulted items from the client but can view from archive explorer.

When we try and open these we get the below error:

I tried going through a few of the solutions here  but wasnt too sure if this was even correct.

Export Archive wizard missing

I need a solution

I want to export a vaulted mailbox, but when I right-click 'Archives' and choose 'Export...', I get an error saying:

Unable to Launch Export Archive Wizard (ExportArchiveWizard.exe)

Reason: The system cannot find the path specified.

 

So my question is, where can I get this wizard from?

Event id: 41008 Savesets that have not yet been backed up or replicated for Vault Store

I need a solution

I've seen Article:TECH190067

 

We have three Vault Stores and three partitions in each store. Two of the three partitions are closed in each store. I have set the backup on all Store partitions to "Check for Trigger File". For some reason, EV complains about the 2nd store. 

When I first did this, the amount of savesets reduced. But EV still complains about the 2nd store. I also see a lot of "Unsecured Items Found In Last Scan" under the backup tab for all three stores in each partition. 

Anyone have any ideas?

Archive bit on Legato incremental backup

Hey guys,

I just started to support a new EV environment. Unfortunaley I find a huge backlog of savesets during the week. It looks like that only the full backup on the weekend successfully sets the archive bit. When the incremental backup is executed it does not change the archive bit.

Enterprise Vault 9.03 on Windows server 2008 R2 SP1

Backup Server:
 

IBM x3650 server

NetWorker Server 7.6.5 Build 7
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2

 

Our backup specialist told me, that Legato is very simple to set up and that there is no difference in the settings from full to incremental backup.

So is Legato in that Version not able to set the archive bit during the incremental backup by design?

I'm just asking here because here are a lot of experienced guys who work with the most different backup tools.
Otherwise I have to ask EMC.

SynchInMigrationMode 2 Create new Archive and link to old

I need a solution

A customer with ~20,000 mbx,  has a major project to migrate Exchange 2010 to 2013, upgrade EV from 9 to 10 for Exch2013 compatibility, and migrate the 6 server EV farm to fresh hardware.

As part of this exercise we would like to re-organise the vaultstores (For several techincal and historical reasons). The business is happy to leave existing data in the old vault stores, keeping them forever, for reference only, while linking the users to new Vault Stores as they migrate to Exchange 2013.

After much investigation of SynchInMigrationMode, including Tech48928, HowTo32318, Tech65019 it looked like SynchInMigrationMode 2 would do the job.

They have no shortcuts, and do not use Vault Cache at this point, although they would like to enable that for laptop users in the future.

From the above research we expected that EV with SIMM2 enabled, would detect the newly migrated Mailbox in Exch2013, create a NEW Archive, which would point to the NEW Vault stores (Defined with the Vault Store Override on the newly created Exchange 2013 objects in the EVAC); rename the old archive by adding date-time stamps to indicate opening and closing dates of the archive (Like Move Archive does); and finally link the old archive to the user.

We expected that the user would see two Archives, the OLD, renamed, one and his NEW one for Exchange 2013.

We expected to see the two ARchives in the EVAC, with the appropriate Vautl Store allocation listed for each.

The Exchange 2013 Is up, EV is Upgraded to EV10.0.4-chf3, Exchange 2013 & the new Vaultstore configureation is in place in EV

When we came to test this it did not work. No matter what we do it appears that SynchInMigrationMode 1 has happened and the NEW Exch 2013 Mailbox is inked to the OLD Archive, and mail is archived from Exchange 2013 to the OLD Archives.

I can find no further information on SIMM 2 other than :-

2 - Creates new entries for the new or moved mailboxes and renames any old
entries that have matching legacyMbxDN values, by adding timestamps to the
legacyMbxDN fields.

Has anyone used Mode 2 successfully for anything, or have any idea what it is supposed to be used for?

 

Further:-

In testing we have nearly achieved our objective by manually performing the following:-

Delete the entry from the EV DIrectory ExchangeMbxEntry table;

ZAP the mailbox; 

Migrate the Mailbox to Exchange 2013

EV (Simm2 set) Provisioning and Synch run on schedule

New Achive is provisioned, pointing to the New Vault Stores

Old Archive is linked to user (But not renamed automatically, we did that manually in the EVAC)

User sees and can operate on the two Archives

EVAC shows the two Archives linked to the Old and New VaultStores respectively.

So with a bit of help EV was capable of achieving the objective, and we know that it can re-name & date stamp Archives like it does with MOVE archive.

Obviously this approach would need some scripting to be used at scale, but we are so close and can't help thinking there is some little thing we are missing with this Synch in Migration Mode.

Has anyone attempted anything like this, or better yet succeeded?

EV 10.0.4 OWA configuration troubles

We have recently upgraded to Exchange 2010 and have upgraded to Enterprise Vault 10.0.4.  I am having some troubles with OWA and what the appropriate settings should be in my desktop policy and owa web.config in general.  I think I've read half the forums in the last day and have tried a combination of ideas.  

We have 1 EV server.  Currently, we front our Enterprise Vault web services with an F5 Big IP and pass through traffic.  Both our external and internal clients use the same dns entry of archive.company.com which points them to the F5 vip.  

In our exchange environment we have a CAS array that is fronted by our F5.  Internal and external users that choose to use OWA both use the same dns entry of webmail.company.com which points them to the F5 vip.

I have the OWA extensions installed on the CAS servers.  I have an exchangeservers.txt configured on the enterprise vault server and the owauser.wsf script has been run successfully and the EVAnon site created.

What would be the recommended desktop policy settings for OWA for Client Connection and External Web Application URL?  Currently the inherited settings was Use Proxy and https://outlookanywhere.company.com.   This seems fishy to me. I would think the settings should be Direct and https://archive.company.com/EnterpriseVault

Also, should I be using additional settings in the web.config files such as

<add key="EnterpriseVault_ExternalWebAppUrl" value="https://archive.company.com/EnterpriseVault"/>

 

Currently, when using webmail internally, my enterprise vault icons and options seem to show up ok.  When I connect to webmail from external, I do not have any enterprise vault icons or options.  I turned on logging while I tested externally and it appears to check my mailbox and grab the EV settings, but never actually enable the icons.  

I have some suspicions that there are different firewall rules in place when connecting to the webmail.company.com F5 vip from outside compared to inside, even though all traffic after that should take the same route.  The only thing I can think of is that rpc is not open from external to our webmail vip.  However, I can browse directly to https://archive.company.com/EnterpriseVault from an external pc.  I am prompted for login credentials.  After logging in, I can use the EnterpriseVault website.  When I connect to https://archive.company.com/EnterpriseVault from a company pc internally, it takes me straight in (due to windows authentication passthrough).  

I think I'm missing something here in general or it shouldn't be as difficult as its turning out to be.  Any recommendations would be appreciated!

 

Just to add since I forgot, that using a typical outlook client internally works fine with EV.  This is all OWA woes. Thanks again!

Disabling vaulting question

I need a solution

Before we delete a mailbox (and AD account) we usually disable the mailbox from vaulting.

Is this necessary? What happens if a a mailbox and AD account are deleted without disabling the vaulting first?

Hope someone can answer this!

Disable EV 11 search banner

I need a solution

I have just upgrde to EV 11. After the upgrade there were 2 issues that stood out. First, when I go to what was archive explorer there is a banner at the top that says "Enterprise Vault Search" when you click on the banner it displays documentation and video information. How can this be disabled? Next, my users can no longer delete their archives. there is no option on the right-click and the button at the top does nothing.

Hi all, I've been doing some PST imports in EV archives and I can't for the life of me figure out what one of the lines below refers to. I've looked in the Admin guide, EV 10 resources but I can't see the answer to my question

It's the Other Items Moved To Mailbox

227 Not eligible for archiving due to policy, and moved to mailbox?

I don't get the 'moved to mailbox'. I'm importing into EV archive. Is it saying they get moved to the corresponding Exchange mailbox?

EV11 archive Exchange Online

Hi,

We have a customer that want to migrate the actual internal infrastructure to Exchange online so in an outside email system. He ask me if after the email migration they can use the actual internal EV to archive Exchange Online.

So, is it possible to archive Exchange Online with an internal EV? Is there a 3rd-party connector or similar?

Unable to access placeholders from file share of EMC Celerra

Hi,

We have installed and Configured Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 on Windows 2012 R2.

EV is configured to archive the files from the file server (EMC Celerra).

We are successfully able to archive and the placeholders are getting created but we get different errors while accessing different file type, the screen shot is added as an attachment.

We are able to baccess the Internet shortcuts and the files from Archive Explorer.

We are also able to recall the actual files from FSA utility.

We keep receiving the following error in the celerra logs:

2014-10-21 12:18:11: DHSM: 3:[bnpns120] Could not get HTTP response from HTTP server; status code - 1002 Authentication scheme not supported

2014-10-21 12:18:11: MGFS: 3:[bnpns120] error direct read block 0 of entry 122, status 28 - InternalError

No Error messages are logged on the EV server's Event Viewer.

Have anyone faced such issues?

EV 10 File Server properties Netapp change parameter issue

When I try to change some items on File Server Properties of a Netapp File Server, in the Netapp Tab, I have the following message : "Failed to save or update details for File Server "\\xxxx" in the Directory Service. A datatype conversion error was detected while accessing the Vault Database. NULL"

Does anybody could advise what's the best practice and how we need to format the disks on EV for Exchange environment? What's the size can be of allocation unit size for EV servers - Index, Vault store partitions and etc.?

Our EV environment will be on Windows 2012 x64 R2.

I need a solution

I am looking at changing the location of the virtual vault cache for all users from the default to a home directory on a network location. I was reading through the options on this, and ran into what seems like a show-stopper:

Root folder search path-

 

The location in which to place Vault Caches. This value is used when a user enables Vault Cache. Changing this value has no effect on existing Vault Caches.

 

Is there some method I can use to either:

  • force users to create a new VVC in the new location
  • use a script to copy the content of their current local VVC to their new location and kickstart them from there?
  • something more elegant?

EV MetaData Build failed

I am trying to Build Metastore for one user.

According to the Indexing MetaData Log (from Monitor Indexing Task) it failed with the following error message :

OWA item retrieval only by right-clicking

Hello guys,

I'am facing a weird error on item retrieval via OWA.

We got a lot of sub domains and for two forests we have the following issue.
 

Forest A:

For these people, OWA has been disclosed over regular (home)internet. Home workers are accessing OWA, using the Safenet two-factor authentication. Archived items are being displayed with the normal xml preview. However, clicking the “View the original item” results in a timeout. The funny thing is, that users are in fact able to right-click and de-archive an item before opening it.

 

Forest B:

For these people, the procedure is quite the same, the users are able to right-click and de-archive an item before opening it. However, clicking the “View the original item” does not result in a timeout (like at Forest A), but in an error message saying that the user has insufficient rights to access the item.

For the other Forests C,D,E,... OWA and Outlook ist working fine.

We are using Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 and the appropriate OWA extensions on the CAS servers.

I would really appriciate if you could pount me to the source of this issue.

Will Enterprise vault support SQL TDE

Hi All, we have a client who is looking at implementing Enterprise Vault and they are asking if EV will support SQL with TDE deployed (Transparent Data Encryption) i have not found any information ragarding support for this function  i would of thought not

does anybody know if it will / wont or experience of this

Enabling mailbox - event 3139 - error enabling mailbox

Hello all,

Exchange 2010, EV10SP4CHF2.

Exchange-server has been rebuild, and according to the one who rebuild it, the powershell scripts (Throttling and permission) have been run succesfully.

Mailboxes were moved to DR-server, on which this erroneous mailbox was created. DAG were failed back to 'new' server when rebuild was completed and accepted.

Archiving etc runs fine. When enabling a new mailbox for archiving, I get event 3139 - An non-specific error has occurred whilst enabling archiving for the mailbox "removed" Error: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)

I ran a trace on agentclientbroker, and see the error returning. I verified the GC is available and used. (GC: in the logfile is the one closest to the Exchange server).

A snip is attached.

When checking ADUC, I see as Exchange Home Server the DR server. I am thinking this is what is causing this issue, but I am not sure.

Someone seen and actioned this before?
