Fsautility commands to restore data into the source and to delete the stubs

I need a solution
  • I would like to restore the archived files but in the same folder but because there are stubs in the same folder Its not doing anything . I have run the fsautility –t-s \\servname\dir\user1 . I want a solution whereby I replace the actual documents and remove the stubs. I can do this on the different directory and it works . but we don’t have space hence we want to do it on the same folder
  • The second thing is we want to stop folder archiving to our drive . I can uninstall the agent but the company is saying no . what can be done on the admin console to stop the archiving . can I change something on the policies (if so what is the procedure) or can I change something which I don’t know yet .

EV 11 and Windows XP with EV 10 plugin ?

Hi !
I'm sorry for my bad English, I'm French !
I installed Symantec Enterprise Vault 11 but I need to archive emails in Windows XP sp3 with Outlook 2010.
Windows XP is not supported for EV 11 Client plugin. Can i use client plugin EV 10 to connect to EV Server 11 ?

How does SMTP journalling handle Distribution Lists?

With the SMTP journal feature in 11.0.1 how are DLs handled? There's a brief mention to adding a DL as a target, but that seems crazy if you're managing 1,000s. Is there any guidance on DL expansion? Or is this no longer an option?

Restore with FSAUtility

I need a solution

Hi everybody,

I need your help to explain me why my restore doesn't work.

We have a fileserver which has been archived by EV. I'd like to restore all items archived to another disk. So, I use fsautility : fsautility -t -s \\sourceshare -d \\destinationshare.

Why restore to another location ? In fact, we have to move all data (except EV directories) to another disk. Once, data were moved, we have replace disk letter to original. Old data disk used another letter.

We have this result :

fsautility -t -s \\sourceshare -d \\destinationshare

Symantec Enterprise Vault.
Copyright (c) 2010. Symantec Corporation.

Restore files
Source      : \\sourceshare
Destination : \\destinationshare
Note: File restore operation has been started.
Done.

The XML file created doesn't show any files to be restored.

Application Event is empty. DTRACE is not explicit (there is no error)

So, why my items aren't restored ?

I need a solution

Hi,

I have some weird activity on one EV server and I need help troubleshooting the cause of it...

Environment:

1 EV server: version 10.0.4

2 exchange servers 2010 versrions

separated sql server

all are running on 2008 r2 operating systems

Archives are in centera.

Symptoms:

schedulet run time is out but looking from the report the schedulet run is still running after hours later though A5 queue is empty.

Usage report shows that there are items waiting for backup - configured to check the status every 10min. When the query is on an event item 4231 is being logged and the bu queue is not emptying.

I stopped the task and started it again - the report said completed for the run. I started a run now in report mode. It went through the A3 queue but after it's empty the report shows that the run now status is still running...

What might cause this? the report shows some earlier (even over a month old)  reports still being in running mode... How is this possible as the services have been restarted after those, where should I look unfinished task runs and either delete those or somehow mark ended...?

I need a solution

Hi

we are on EV8 Sp5. I am trying to see if we have archives for a large number of users (over 2000) who have left the business and no longer have an exchange mailbox. All i have to go off is their old smtp address

is there any way i can run a SQL query to determine if these users have an archive or not ?

EV FSAUTILITY Mass-Recall problem

Hello ..

EV 9.0.2

I have problems withFSAUTILITYand mass-recall ..

I runthe command: fsautility -t - s \\fileserver\share\user -l -0 

The commandruns successfullyand ends with,"File RestoreOperationHAS BEENstartedand XMLlog filegenerated,Done" ..

When Icheck thelogfile, there are onlybetween30-100 of more than 1000 files marked with"RestoreOperationStarted" andthe rest ismarkedwith "The File Exists" ..

Seems likeFSAUTILITYstops working..same size on logs aswhen they were created!

gratefulfor any suggestions :O)

EV has stopped Public Folder archiving

I need a solution

My EV environment has stopped processing the public folders i've reseached it and been thought the common faults and nothing helps.the answer to all the coomon faults are below.

nothing has changed in the environment between last working and today.

i have no errors in the MS event viewer

i've tried to run the task in report mode to see if that showed an error but it doesn't run

the general logs don't show any issues.

The password for the service account is correct and current 

restarting doesn't help nor does a restart of the services.

Unforunately i can't get dtrace to work for some reason it wouldn't enable the log for monitoring the public folder archive. Probably me getting the wrong commands

however the MSMQ for the EV queues p5 is massive. (3 million emails)

A symantec engineer had recented manually purged the queues while working on something else but i don't know if it was this queue and i don't want to loss data be purging it myself.

does any one have any ideas on what may cause this issue?

SQL upgrade - will WOW64 be a problem?

I need a solution

Afternoon all, I need to upgrade a SQL server approaching End of Extended support and I'm not sure the best way to do it

I have EV9, on 2008r2 with SQL 2005 SP4 (x86)

Microsoft documentation says I can't do an in place 32bit to 64bit upgrade. The next compatible DB I can use for EV9 is SQL Server 2008 R2 (x64). Apparently I can upgrade from 32bit to WOW64

EV9 is compatible with SQL Server 2008 R2 

so the only thing I can't find info on is the WOW64 factor

Has anyone tried this or knows whether it's possible?

Backup of closed partition

I need a solution

Hi,

i tried to read some previous post, but I did not found any solution.

I've some huge closed partiton. I read that i can backup them les frequently than opened partition.

I use backup exec, my question is following :

I would create a new job for closed partition, is it enough to select closed partition, or should i include :

- Directory DB

- Fingerprint database

- Vault store DB

- Index locations

- monitoring DB ?

I would say only closed partition, as other object are backed up daily.

And i presume that in case of a restore after a disaster, i should restore first closed partition and then the daily backup

Can you confirm ?

Collection CAb Files

I need a solution

Hi,

is there a way to increase the number of files inside a collection ?

I see that more or lees each file conatins 200 files.

Reading some article it seems that number can be increased, but in Vault 10.0.4 i can't find a way.

EV 11 Search item selection limit

I need a solution

Hello,

I have new installation of EV 11.0.1. I have discovered that I can't select more than 200 items in EV search. One of our admins responsibility is to export some content from archive to PSTand this limit poses an issue.

I saw article that talkes about creating WebApp.ini filr with RestoreToPST  option in it, but it seems not working in version 11.

Also, I know that archives can be exported to PST from VAC, but contents we need to export is way less than the whole user archive, so it's not working werry well. And for this type of exports, EV Discovery Accelerator will be overkill as well.

Any one has an answer for me how to increase the selection number?

PST Migrator (Import) from Windows 7 "The RPC Server is Unavailable"

I need a solution

EV 9 SP3 servers.  Windows 7 workstations.

We're having a blitz on PSTs at the moment.
The Helpdesk staff are trying to run some PST imports for users to their archives.
Rather than have them Helpdesk staff clog up the RDP connections to the EV servers, we want to have them run the PST Migrator (Import) tool from their own Helpdesk workstations.

I've given them the appropriate permissions through Authorization Managaer.

It all starts promisingly enough, but when they try to kick of the the import, they get the error:

"Migration of PSTs failed.
Check that the computer 'EVservername' is available.
Error: The RPC server is unavailable"

Any ideas?

This process works fine from my own PC, logged in to as me.

Hey, I'm currently EV 11.0.1 and was wondering is it is possible for end users to delete and entire folder in the archives. In previous version I don't believe that was an option.

Hi,

Kindly find the details of the enviorment as follows.

OS Version: Windows 7 SP1

Outlook Version: 2007 SP3

Enterprise Vault add-in Version: 11.0.1

We are using symantec antivirus.

I am geting below error while opening outlook.

Outlook experienced a serious problem with the 'enterprise vault add-in' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?

I have gone through previous discussion blog also: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/user-ev-add-crashed

But link provided in the solution https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH166005.html is showing 'There is no article that matches your request.'

Can anyone provide the rootcause of the issue.

Kindly provide other technote or link in order to troubleshoot the same.

migrating storage to HCP

Hello all,

Theoretical question.

I have 3 EV servers, each having 1 user vault store, with many partitions. If we move to an HCP, and I move the data to there, can I remove the storage attached to the EV-servers?

I assume that moving the data means that retrieving (where the cabfiles need to be extracted) will be done on the HCP device.

It will be a move, including updating SQL etc.

I need a solution

Hi Guys

I was just looking for some info on the relationship between the services on a file server and the EV application servers.

Very long story short....we upgraded the EV DB from SQL 2008 to 2012 on 20/05/2015.

We took a VM snapshot to cover us in case of any errors.

All working out ok and EV was brought back up successfully with all functionality.

A day later the snapshot(which i kept just in case) filled up the disk and caused the Ev database to fall over redering the task controller service on 2 of our 4 EV servers as failed.

The next morning as all of our users were trying to log on all of our file clusters went down.

We had to commit the VM snapshot and reboot the EV systems and after that the file severs came back to their normal selves.

I dont expect anyone to be troubleshooting this sort of thing on the forum but my question would be...

What would the expected behaviour of a windows file cluster configured for FSA be, in the event of the loss of the EV database?
