Compliance Sampler Event ID 41597

I need a solution

On Monday I created a new CA customer and saw the following warning in the event log Tuesday and today:

Event ID:      41597
Task Category: Compliance Sampler
Level:         Warning
Description:
An attempt to transfer items to Compliance Accelerator for sampling has failed as the associated customer database no longer exists. To resolve this issue, restore the database or see article TECH223648 on the Symantec Support website.
Customer GUID: 5bb6960a-d144-41e9-b020-c9784e16c79f

The customer database was created successfully and was never deleted. I checked the EVCAConfiguration database for the Customer GUID, verified it in the tbl.Config in the customer database, and in the ItemSamplingStatusLog table in the vault store database. It's all the same CustomerGUID (I'll post a screen shot if that's helpful).

Has anyone else seen this? I'm going to restart services on the EV and CA servers tonight to see if that helps. I'd appreciate any other advice.

Hello,

I tried adding a file server as target on the vault admin console but the VAC crashes with the response below:

Cannot enable Enterprise Vault in Outlook

I need a solution

I work at a very large corporation.  Lately my department is in the process of being downsized so I'm being tossed between a lot of other departments that, maybe I'm not an expert in, but they're swamped so I'm trying to get the other departments caught up.

Right now, our Messaging department is way backed up.  Before yesterday, I never heard of this Symantec Enterprise Vault (They've been calling it Virtual vault.)  I figure before I can support other users with it, I need to at least get it working on my own work PC so I can play around with it.  Well, I downloaded it from a share and installed it on my pc.  When I open outlook, the plugin does not load.  When I launch Event Viewer, I get an error message.

I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the plugin.  I found some articles about trying to find the "Warmup" key in the registry and deleting it.  I show this location in articles.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins\[YourAdd-in]\Warmup

This key doesn't exist in my registry.

I deleted this registry entry to try to get rid of anything being stored about the plugin.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\EnterpriseVault.DesktopUI

Also tried this...

  1. Remove your existing plug-in (Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs)
  2. Open the Windows command line (Start -> Run).
  3. Run this command: rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache.
  4. Reinstalled app.

Still getting the same error as above.  Oh, and I uninstalled and reinstalled by right clicking the install file and selecting to run as administrator.  Still no luck.  I need to figure this out.  I need to be able to support thousands of users using this.  How can a plugin be so difficult to enable?  BTW, I've asked others in the department and this product is new so no one here has seen this error.

Upgrading Index Questions

I need a solution

We are upgrading from EV for Exchange 9.0.4 on server 2003 to 10.0.4 on 2012 R2.  We had a consultant in about a year a go talking to us about the process.  We were told that all the indexes had to be converted to 64 bit at the time of the upgrade and would be offline until the conversion was complete. My research indcates that this is not the case. My questions would be.

1. In the upgrade process new 64-bit indexes are created for new content and co-exist with the 32-bit indexes and the system is avialable for use and do not have to wait for the existing indexes to convert.  Is this true?

2. When we choose to convert the 32-bit indexes to 64-bit is the system still available for use during the conversion?

3: I am going to use the Migration Wizard to assist in the upgrade.  Will I be able to choose a new volume for the 64-bit indexes or will they  go to the location of the existing 32-bit indexes?

Option to Enable Auditing not available

Hi all,

I uninstalled EV and also deleted all databases, audit option was enable at that time.
Then reinstall EV 11.0.1 (+CHF1) and now option to "Enable Auditing" is not available when right clicking 'Directory on' in the Enterprise Vault Admin console anymore.

I followed the article TECH55267 completelly to solve my problem but the problem condition is not include there exactly and didn't be solved.

SQL and EV are different servers.
EnterpriseVaultAudit database does not exist.
On both server; In ODBC connections in the System DSN tab no EVAudit entry.

Followed other way by creating EVAudit entry in System DSN also didn't solve the problem.

Restarted both SQL and EV servers but still can't see option to "Enable Auditing".

I need a solution

Hi,

i need to configure DelegateCanSeePrivateItems=1 under EV 11 / 11.0.1.
For previous releases, it is descirbed in the technote TECH57636.

How can I configure this option without WebApp.ini under EV 11?

I´ve tried to create the WebApp.ini file with this option, but under EV11 the file isn´t in use.

Unable to delete FSA partitions as they still contain data

Help .....

We are coming towards the end of our EV migration (EV9 to EV10) and I am wondering the best way to delete the FSA partitions.

All our FSA data has been unarchived and in the new EV 10 environment we are not filesystem archiving just using EV for exchange mailbox archiving ..... Mailboxes have been migrated using the EV archive migration tool but the deletion process is so slow .... Still have over 2000 archives to delete and at its current speed we estimate it will take a year to delete these ......

I am now looking at the old FSA archives that can now be deleted (Over 7000 archives) and am wondering what is the quickest way to delete the data...... I cannot delete the partitions as it complains that they are not empty.

In our old EV9 enviroment we shared our evsite between 2 different geographies, the other site hold the directory database and they are waiting on us to finish our migration before they upgrade to EV 10, so am looking at the quickest way to delete all our old data without compromising the directory database.

Can I do the following ...... delete the data on the FSA disks within windows and then right click and delete the partitions in the VAC ...... as we are not worried about our UK EV9 databases (they will also be deleted at the end of this process) as if I have to right click every FSA archive then this will take years ....

My main concern is the implications on what this could do to the directory database as we do not administer it ..... and they need to carry on using this database. All our UK data (FSA archives \ UK Databases) can be deleted as we have migrated to new storage & servers running EV10.

Any ideas ..... Hope this makes sense

EVPM: Error Creating Privileged MAPI Session

Hi There,

I had this EVPM process which would create and populate folders in people's Outlook and set retention categories on them. This process is broken now and when i run that process, it returns with the error message "Error creating privileged MAPI session"

Here is how i run this and i have been running like this for ages and it has been working but this stopped over a month ago and i cannot make it work anymore, anything found online so far is not helping:

I modify the INI file with proper Mailbox DN to which i need to deploy the folders and then i launch the commad prompt, i browse to the directory where Evpm is located, see below, i have changed any identifiable info to something phony:

"C:\Users\evault>Cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Enterprise Vault

Now for all above fields, i have tried all possible combinations i can think of, for example, for Exchange server name i have tried all CAS servers individually one by one, e.g CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS4

For service mailbox alias, i have tried, SMTP addresses and mailbox aliases of all of our four EV system mailboxes e.g EV-mailbox1@smtpdomain.com, EV-mailbox2@smtpdomain.com, EV-mailbox3@smtpdomain.com, EV-mailbox4@smtpdomain.com, EV-mailbox1, EV-mailbox2, EV-mailbox3, EV-mailbox4

I have even recreated one of archiving tasks to no avail.

I cannot think of anything other than that we might have created some new mailbox databases and moved mailboxes around around the time when this started occuring but i am not 100% sure about it. I am under pressure to get this fixed, please help!

Migrate EVault 11 to new Hardware. Questions

I need a solution

Hello,

i have to move an EVault 11 Server for an Customer to new Hardware. The Server is actual a hardware Server. Enterrpise Vault Version 11. The new Server is a virtuell Server on Hyper-V. SQL Server is different not on EVault.

The new Server is installed. Same OS, same Diskdrives and Letter. I found an Guide on Symantec: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

A few question for Understanding. Hope someone have also same migration as me.

Is ist possible to copy the Content of EVault (Storage Files and Index) one or to Days befor start Migration ? Because that a lot on Data and the idea is to make first copy one or two days befor and a diff on migration day?

The Guide say its optimal same Servername. OK no prop. But i can´t have the same Server two times in AD. My Idea: Give Server the same name and let it on Workgruop. After copy all Data and Regkeys cut off Network, Reset ComputerAccount an bring new Server to Domain?

Hope someon can help or giv me info.

Archive Notification Emails from Client Driven PST Import

I need a solution

I have a mailbox with a bunch of PST Complete email notifications from our client driven PST import effort. The message class is IPM.Note, which is included in my archive policy, but the messages are never archived. I've been through the policies and can't see any obvious reason why they are not being archived.

Any thoughts?

All,

Need some assistance with some EV 9.0.1.1073 vault exports to PST. EV is installed on VM 2003R2 Standard box (only 4GB RAM).

The majority of exports have completed without issue. Journal Vaults are being exported using date ranges as memory utilisation on the VM peaks out after prelonged periods of time causing the exports to fail. All failures and issues are experienced within the thresholds imposed by the servers architecture. The issues we are experiencing are as below:

1. The number of exported items in some cases do not seem to match up to the “Total Items” listed on the Vault. This is not the case on all exports, appears to be a similar issue as to: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/vaulted-items-exported-different-number-listed

2. We have noticed that EV picks up items when exporting outside of the date ranges specified in the properties of the Vault. Items are picked up in the exports when date ranges are selected that are out of the expected range for that particular vault. This was initially noticed when the date range was only slightly out, then as a test a date range of (Batch 1 from 01/01/1900 to 01/01/1979) was used and 47 items found.

3. When re-running failed exports, they have again failed at seemingly the same point, however we have not been able to confirm this due to limited information for failures. The exports were within the recommended size per export so it should in theory have gone through. The below point really relates to this one, in as much as logging relating to the failure is poor:

4. Are there any other further logs created that contain more details as the ones that seem to be generated contain little information, default location is currently: C:\Program Files\Enterprise Vault\Reports\.

We use SCOM to monitor our EV environment, and we see on one of our installs the following alert:

There are no events in the eventlogs (Enterprise Vault, System, Application). There are no issues reported using the search, There are no other issues reported.

Does anyone know if this warning is a false alert? I do not see a reason to investigate or try to fix, but the SCOM team worries there is something wrong what needs to be fixed.

this environment has been upgraded from 10SP4CHF2 to EV11SP1CHF1 on 18/04/2015 without issues.

EV 11.0.1 FSA slow restore

Hi all,

Running EV FSA 11.0.1 on Windows 2012R2 with 10GB network,

I'm currently restoring 400Gigs of data at what appers to be up to 15MB/per sec to file server Windows 2008R2 Guest on Vmware 5.5

Is there a way to speed things up.

I have  changed the regestry to 60 file per 1 sec. to make sure it does not stop as there are some small log files in there.

average file size is between 1.5-4.5 gig

difference between received/sent date, modified date in outlook and archived date and modified date for storage expiry

I need a solution

Hello,

I am need to understand the difference the between above terms. The question arise because we have storage expiry enabled and it is based on modified date.

we also have Evault managed  retention folders. Now when we archive an item ev will check received/sent date and archive morever if modified date  is present  [not the one restoredate] in outlook and will archive.

Now we have retention category applied on INBOX to archive items of 30 days old and it will expire in next 90 days by storage expiry...additionally we have two more folders created by ev , 2 yrs and 4 yrs.. [for retention], so the question is if I have a mailbox which has emails 90 days old in inbox, once I enabled the mailbox for archiving, will items will expire once it has archived and 90 days has passed or it will expire the next the day I enabled the mailbox????

hello,

somebody help me. I stuck this issue for a month.

I use EV 10.0.3.1090

OS : Windows 2008

SQL Server Std DB (run backup on 8:00 PM)

I use trigger file to state that file is backup already. (run on 12:00 AM.)

this is example of trigger file. I run this batch file every 12:00 AM.

I got this error for a month.

'41008 EV alert There are 281208 savesets that have not yet been backed up or replicated for Vault Store 'Exchange MBX Vault'

I run trigger file everyday and run backup by SQL job everyday. it is success.

why it still show this error? please help me. I try everything but cannot fix it.

Cannot expand Virtual Vault after Outlook 2013 installation

Hi All,

We are currently in the middle of an Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2013 POC & to date we have had some challenges in regards to the functionality of the Virtual Vault after the installation of Outlook 2013. Outlook 2013 installs without error. We then launch Outlook all looks well with the Virtual Vault in the navigation pane, however when you click on the Virtual Vault to expand the folder set you get the error message "Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service EVMSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured".

To set the scene we have the current configuration on our POC test case machine

-  Outlook 2007 SP3 installed side by side with Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 :

-  Enterprise Vault Outlook Addin 10.0.4.1293

- Outlook 2007 SP3 user with Virtual Vault working as expected

- Outlook 2013 15.0.4649.1001 with Virtual Vault, however cannot expand folder set because of the MAPI error above.

In order to re-enable the Vault we have had to do one of two tasks below:

1. As part of the Outlook 2013 installation script we perform a repair of the Enterprise Vault add-in, which results in most cases of a working Virtual Vault upon completion of the installation of Outlook.

2. By running the following command rundll32 EVMSP32.dll,MergeEVMSPWithMAPISVC

To my understanding the reason for this MAPI error is a result of the new installation of Outlook 2013 creating a new MAPISVC.INF where the Enterprise Vault services have not been registered. This then results in the Virtual Vault not functioning as expected. In performing one of the two tasks below this registers the service with MAPI, which results in a working Virtual Vault.

What i would like to understand is if anyone in the forum has come across an issue like this & what approach you have taken to resolve it. Any insight, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Exclude one Folder from archiving in Symantec EV 11.0

Hi Team ,

Here is the requirement 

We have Symantec EV 11.0 on our system.

Our users have few good old emails which they would like to have them in their mailbox itself and not to be archived ( Less than 100 emails)

Currently what we have planned is to create a unique folder for all the users through Managed Folder and we will instruct all the users to move thier old good emails to this folder called OLD EMAILS.

Our EV system runs archive task every day on all mailboxes.

What we would like to have is to exclude  only this folder called  OLD EMAILS forever from archive task and this folder should not be archived at any cost.

Rest of the subfolders should be archived as a part of regular archive task

Any help is much appreciated
